The disease causes the skin to become red, scaly, and flaky.
It is caused by the overgrowth of fungus on the skin.
The fungus uses sebum present on the scalp as a food source to cause infection.
The fungus digests the sebum leaving behind free fatty acids that cause itching, redness, and scaling.
Treating the dermatitis means reducing sebum and decreasing the fungus.
